About Vendtendo

Vendtendo was founded in Vancouver in 2022 to make vending simple, modern, and accessible for anyone curious about starting a vending business.

We run our own machines and have helped multiple people get their first vending setups off the ground ~ from choosing the right machine to understanding locations, stocking, and day-to-day operations.

Vending is a great way to learn how real-world cash-flow businesses work. It’s hands-on, financially rewarding and simple enough to fit around a full-time job or other projects. Over time, those small wins add up, and many of our clients grow from one machine into multiple locations!

FAQ

How much money can a vending machine make per month?

Most vending machines earn between $150 and $600 per month, depending on location, foot traffic, and product mix. High-traffic locations like gyms, offices, condos, and campuses can exceed this range. Profit margins typically improve as you add more machines and optimize restocking.

Do I need permits or licenses to run vending machines in Canada?

For most vending machines selling pre-packaged snacks and drinks, a health permit is not usually required in BC or across most of Canada. However, there are a few basic business requirements you should be aware of:

Business registration:
You’ll need to operate as a sole proprietor or incorporated business and register for a business number if required. Many operators choose to incorporate for liability and tax reasons as they scale.

Municipal business license:
Some cities and municipalities require a local business license to operate vending machines, especially if the machines are placed in public or commercial spaces. Requirements vary by city, so it’s important to check with the local municipality where each machine is located.

Insurance:
Most property owners and commercial locations require general liability insurance before allowing a vending machine on-site. This typically covers damage, injury, or theft related to the machine.

Food safety requirements:
Food safety rules depend on what you’re selling.

  • Pre-packaged, shelf-stable snacks and drinks generally do not require FoodSafe certification.
  • Fresh, perishable, or prepared food may require FoodSafe certification and approval from the local health authority.

Special locations:
Certain sites such as universities, airports, transit stations, and government buildings may have additional contracts, permits, or approval processes.

We help our clients understand these requirements and point them in the right direction so there are no surprises when getting started.

How often do vending machines need to be restocked?

Most machines are restocked every 1–4 weeks, depending on sales volume. High-traffic locations may require weekly restocking, while smaller sites can run longer. With our remote monitoring, you’ll know exactly when a machine needs attention.
